New Winter Singles Box League now live...

Dear [[firstname]]

So the Summer / Autumn Singles League is now complete and well done to all box winners, especially our Premier League Champion, Sean!

The new singles box league is now ready to view on MyCourts and all box winners (and some runners-up) have been promoted. You have until 1st February to play your games, but given Christmas and winter weather, you might want to reach out to your fellow box players now!

A couple of other points:

The massive Premier League...

There are 8 players in the premier league this time. This is a one-off we have agreed, allowing for vaious injuries last time and our men's champion rejoining the league! For the March/April league, the bottom three premier players will get relegated, so we get it back to 6. Note this will probabaly have a knock-on impact on Boxes 1 and 2 next time, so best to be in the top half of those boxes if you want to stay there!

Please don't wait for others to contact you...

I get a number of messages each period from players frustrated that their fellow box players are not arranging games or answering their messages. So please both play an active role in fixing matches and be respectful if others approach you - eg try and respond the same day if you get a message or email. If you can't make the date and time suggested, then perhaps offer 2 more in its place...

Injuries

This league raised the thorny issue as to how we deal with injuries during a box and frankly there is no easy way around it - eg walk-overs penalise those players who did play the now-injured player earlier in the league and as you know we want to encourage early playing of matches.

So the normal approach is that results already played will stand if a person subsequently becomes injured. However there may be exceptions to this, so please contact me if an issue arises.

Walk-Overs

This is a friendly competition, so there are only very limited situations where a walk-over (3-0) score might be appropriate - for example

  • No-Shows - if a player simply doesn't turn up for an agreed match
  • Repeat Cancellations - if a player cancels a match twice for non weather-related reasons
  • Ghosting - if a player does not respond to a personal DM or email after 3 requests.

If you think a situation warrants a walk-over then please let me know before posting it.

Thanks for your help and enjoy your games - some great boxes in prospect!

Ian
