Davis Cup Teams Announced!

Dear [[firstname]]

Dear

We have now carried out the interim draw for the Davis Cup on the 28th May and the complete list of countries and current players is below. Note that there might be a few changes as a result of late entrants, but we will try and limit this.

Your team has been allocated a captain and they will be in touch shortly!

Overall

We suggest one of you create a WhatsApp group for your team – you can find their email addresses and phone numbers from the membership web site

Please wear something on the day that links into the country – this could be something as simple as a bandana or you may want to go a little further of course…there will be a prize for the most innovative national dress!

Bring food along and create a table (we will provide one for you) that fully represents to culinary best that your country can provide!

We need a handful of non-players to help with the organisation on the day, so we are asking each team to provide one person (friend, relative, partner etc) if possible! Could you please let me know who you are able to provide??

Tennis Matches

Matches will start at 1pm so please be there at 12.30pm at the very latest for the tournament briefing and warm up (although note that social tennis may still be being played)

The 8 teams will be divided into 2 round robin groups of 4 teams, with each team in the round robin playing each other. The top teams in each group will play in a grand final. So you play against at least 3 other countries

  • Each match will be best of five ‘rubbers’ comprising four doubles rubbers (A v A, B v B, A v B, B v A) and one singles rubber. Each doubles rubber will count as 1 point and the singles rubber will count as 2 points (1 point for each tie break).
  • So there are 6 points to be won or shared between the two teams in each match.
  • Your captain will select a Doubles A and B team for each match
  • Your singles player will however be pre-selected for the 3 Round Robin matches, based on the number before their names in the list below. So, for example, in the first round of matches your player (1) will play against the other team’s player (1) This should ensure close games.
  • Your doubles pairings can change for each match, but if you are a team of 5, then the singles player cannot play doubles in the same match, this is to ensure that everybody in your team plays in each match.
  • If you are a team of 4, then the singles player will also need to make up a doubles pairing too!
  • Each doubles rubber will be a single ‘normal’ tie break to 7 points. The singles rubber will be two tie breaks to 7 points. You need to win each tie break by 2 clear points
  • You get 1 point for every tie break you win. Note that the singles rubber could be a 1-1- draw

On the day

If you could be there earlier to help getting set up that would be brilliant – Lucy and I will be there from around 10am!

Feel fvree to bring family and firends along - there will be non-tennis activities available including giant jenga, connect 4 and cornhole throwing!

Any questions?

Contact your captain or me and I will be glad to help
