Singles Box League - final 2 weeks...

Dear [[firstname]]

A final reminder that there is just under 2 weeks to go in the current Singles Box League and some great nail-biting leagues in prospect! I've had a few messages and conversations with players in the last week, so I thought it would be useful to confirm how we are considering running the box leagues going forward. The aim is to make it a bit more transparent / consistent so you know when the leagues are definitely starting and finishing and can plan accordingly!

Schedule

For the Singles League, we aim to run 4 per year as follows:

  • Winter: November to end January (3 months, allowing for weather and Christmas)
  • Early Spring: February - March (2 months)
  • Late Spring: April - May (2 months)

There will then be a pause for the annual summer tournament...

  • Autumn: Mid-August to end October

So, unless there are unforseen circumstances, there will be no extensions, and as always it will pay to play your matches early in the period!

Start Date

Each box league will start on the first Monday of the month , with people able to play games up until the previous Sunday evening. So this year the Winter League will commence on 3rd November, meaning you can play your current matches anytime up until Sunday 2nd.

Numbers per box

There will generally be 5 players in each box, with some boxes of 6 as necessary

Scoring & Eligibility

League positions will continue to decided on points (eg 3 for a win, 1 or 2 for a loss etc) and then matches won, then head-to-head. Promotion and Relegation will be strictly based on the attached rules. In summary, if you want to progress in the leagues, its important to play all your games!

Every month I get messages from members who are (quite reasonably) frustrated with other players not being proactive in arranging games or not responding to requests for dates. To help with this, anybody who doesn't play a match during the period, will not be eligible for the next box league session, unless they have let me and the other box players know they are injured early in the 'season'.

I hope this clarifies things a little and look forward to some close finishes this session! Any questions or suggestions as always gratefully received...

Cheers - Ian
