Tennis update: new courts, tournaments and social play

Dear [[firstname]]

I hope you have all managed to play some tennis over the winter. So nice to see signs of spring out there, and it will be good to see the courts filling up again. I just wanted to update you on a few things:

  • EASTER TOURNAMENT
We hope to run an American Tournament on Easter Monday, 10th April. We will send out details on how to book in due course.
  • ND CHAMPIONSHIPS
We will send an email in April for information on how to sign up. It would be GREAT to see lots of you have a go this year. Finals day will be on Saturday 9th September.
  • NEW COURTS
You will be pleased to hear that we are finally resurfacing the top two courts. After much deliberation and research, we have chosen TigerTurf Advantage Pro - a new artificial grass surface that is great in all weather conditions, easy to maintain, plays great and is easy on the knees. We will be the only club in Dulwich to have it! The resurfacing date is yet to be confirmed, but likely towards the end of April. We will keep you informed.

SOCIAL PLAY
Social play is a very important activity at our club. We have always prided ourselves on how friendly and inclusive we are, and want to ensure that it remains the heart and soul of the club. Please can I ask you all to read and remind yourself of the following:

  • Please rotate and mix in. This is VERY important. Most games should be a mix of all abilities, depending on timings of arrivals etc. However, sometimes it is fair to try and mix to similar abilities, as long as it doesn’t leave people out, and everyone can get a game. Always be kind and sensitive to all players.
  • If you have just arrived, you will be next in line. i.e., if there are members that have been waiting, you will join the end of the queue. As you know it is normally a pretty quick turnover.
  • Sudden Death Deuce – ALL games at social are sudden death deuce. You should ask the opposition who would like to take the serve. Ie, it is not always the person on the deuce side, and the opposition have the right to choose.
  • If it is very busy and people are waiting for a long time, you should decide to play the first to 5 games on all 4 courts. Please communicate between yourselves when necessary.
  • Social is all about doubles, so if there are only 2 of you playing singles and someone else arrives, please ask them to join your court for a knock up, until a 4th is free/arrives.
  • Please use the appropriate gates for each court to avoid walking across, or behind, when players are in the middle of a game.

Please also be aware of the emails to use for any information or suggestions:

Any questions regarding the above, please reply to this email or contact suggestions@northdulwichtennis.co.uk

Kind regards
