The Club Championships concluded on Saturday with a great day in the sun!
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to make it a lovely day with the BBQ roaring away, the drinks flowing and plenty of cakes on offer.
It is one of those days when many family members and friends trickle down our favourite alleyway to come and see what all the fuss is about in a secluded spot in SE22...
To Simon on the BBQ, Andy and others for stocking the bar, umpires and their helpful scoreboard assistants, Ian for marshalling the troops and helping sort supplies, Mark for sourcing food at the last minute AND stepping in to umpire two matches, Sam and Enatina for fetching the umpires chairs (and Matt for arranging), to Mike and Peter for the incessant efforts around the grounds and to all the players, spectators and bringers of homemade cake, thank you!
This year was the first time we held matches on court 3 and 4 with spectators within arm's reach of the action and Karla's bench almost certainly the best seat in the house.
We had more finals than last year, with the plate competitions a new addition this time. We intend to hold all plate finals on finals day with even more players included!
Well done to all players, including several first time finalists and first time winners. Special mentions go to Harold for fitting in a social event in between his two finals and to Mike "Nobody beats me in 5 finals" Almond - 2026 will go down long in the memory.

The Surrey Winter League is due to start in October. If you are interested in representing the club in any of the teams, please can you contact me directly: benhowell459@hotmail.com OR message me on 07941602492 ASAP (Whatsapp easier).
We have:
3 Men's and 3 Ladies Surrey team's
1 Mixed team (Surrey but Summer only)
2 VET'S team's
Each season has about 5 matches, with 2 or 3 of the games away. We hold Team Practice on a Monday Evening, rotating between the Surrey teams.
We will be holding trials for new players soon, date will depend on interest. If you have any further questions, please send me an email or Whatsapp message.
