New courts, membership and clubhouse

Dear [[firstname]]

We now have confirmation of the resurfacing dates for the top 2 courts, plus we wanted to give you some more information:

Which surface did we choose?

  • Tiger Turf Advantage Pro synthetic grass. We have decided on a two-tone effect, a lighter green court and darker green perimeter.

Which company are we using?

  • 1st Surface

Why did we choose artificial grass?

  • With the more extreme weather, we found there were too many occasions where the hard courts were unplayable - due to rain, ice or moss. We wanted to introduce an all-weather surface, plus one that is easier on the knees! It was between artificial grass or clay. We decided on grass as it is far easier to maintain with the sycamore trees that surround our courts. They can be brushed, or we can use the blower. Also, grass was more cost effective than clay.

Are there any health risks with artificial grass?

  • No. We have done extensive research and the health concerns about artificial grass, reported in the press a little while ago, were about the old style of court which is no longer in production. In fact, artificial clay and grass courts have the same base carpet. The sand is either baked to cover the clay courts or kept as sand to cover the grass court carpet. All the materials now in use are safe.

What is the surface like to play on?

  • We contacted quite a few clubs that use the surface and received very positive feedback. A couple of committee members also tested the grass and found it pleasing to play on. It is known to be a faster surface than hard courts, however, that was not noticeable from our experience. Also, you can slow the ball down depending on the quantity of sand. We hope to try and replicate the bounce with the bottom 2 hard courts as best we can. Please find below the LTA write up:

What are the dates?

  • Work is due to commence on Monday 24th April until approximately 15th May.
  • During this time, we will hold coaching sessions and social on courts 3 and 4. For social, please ensure you stick to the first to 5 games if it is busy. If it is VERY busy, then move to the BEST of 5 games.
  • We will ensure there are no Surrey or Southwark matches during this time.

We hope this email answers all your queries, but please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions by replying to this email.

Clubhouse:

There have been a few comments recently regarding the key safe codes and sustainability of the clubhouse. We have decided not to lock the internal door, so you will no longer need the code. On the sustainabilty plans for the clubhouse and the modernisation - this is an ongoing project and we will send out details once we are closer to finalising them, but in the meantime, please fell free to speak to Peter Wright, who will be happy to give you an update.

Membership:

Please remember to renew your membership THIS WEEK. Thanks to everyone who has done so already.

Kind regards

NDLTC committee
