Facilities and Grounds Update

Dear [[firstname]]

We are doing some work at the club over the coming weeks which will mean courts are unavailable for a short time.

Tree Work

We have now received all the necessary permissions to do some minor tree work at the club. This is principally to remove branches protruding through our fence line and around our floodlights, all on the embankment side. In addition, the hawthorn tree next to the coach’s shed has a basal wound. Whilst the tree is otherwise healthy and has survived all the storms we have been advised that it would be prudent to reduce weight in the crown and remove the overhang to the shed. We will also take this opportunity to plant another hawthorn tree in the same location, around two metres away. We are also removing dead branches and thinning out the lower canopy of the large sycamore above the practice area.

To do this work the entire club will be closed for most of one and a half days. Play will be possible after 4.30pm on day 1 and after 1.30pm on day 2. As soon as this work is scheduled I will update the booking sheets accordingly.

Court Maintenance

The yearly maintenance of the new surface on the upper courts starts this spring. It need to be moss treated every year and the sand level topped up if necessary. This surface means the treatment takes longer than the hard courts. The courts will be completely out of bounds for 48-72 hours.

As you are aware the lower hard courts need to be moss treated and power spray cleaned twice a year, autumn and spring. The courts will be unavailable until the evening of that day. Again, I will update the booking sheets as soon as the dates are confirmed.

The work will not be done simultaneously so there will always be two courts available for members to book.

As ever, if you have any questions regarding the above please contact me directly.

Kind regards, Mike (Facilities and Grounds)
